Fillet Overflow Options

When it comes time to fillet the concave edges for this part, how are you going to do it?
Whether you’re designing for manufacturing or aiming to win Model Mania 2014, here is the option you need to know. The same fillet features are applied for the two following results. However, the overflow type for the outside edge is different.
There are three options to choose from. Really, there are only two that are used. The “Default” overflow type lets the system choose between “Keep edge” and “Keep surface.” The help documentation provides one example, but let’s take a closer look where we have two different fillet features coming together to a vertex and the “Default” option doesn’t give us what we want.
In this example, we create the fillet on the outside edge first so that we can see the difference between the “Keep edge” and “Keep face.” After all, if we fillet the inside edge first, we’ll alter the outside face and the result will be the same either way.
I hope this helps you create better parts for all of your manufacturing and design efforts.
