Holiday Thoughts On A Snowy Evening
December 24, 2016 • David M.
It’s Christmas Eve, eve. Snow coming down on a dark, late afternoon. Most of the team has vacation. A few are cleaning up and organizing. The phones are quiet. The emails are subsiding.
One of the perks of being President is to decide when to let the team go home early. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s the thing to do now.
Smiles and frantic rushing out the door. It’s nice to think all the Quest team are soon to be home with family; warm, cozy and with a long weekend in front of them. Many of them have excited children, extended families, and big plans. The bustle of the holidays creating lifelong memories for everyone.
It’s been an intense year. But now, in the suddenly empty office, it’s peaceful. Christmas is here and that’s something of increasing value to me as the years go on.
Jacob Marley’s Ghost admonished Scrooge, telling him: “Business!? Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”. Here in the quiet of the office, somewhere between Mr. Fezziwig and Mr. Scrooge, I find myself wondering how well I understand that concept. But that I’m wondering, always gives me hope I’m on the right track.
Happy Holidays! May you find peace this holiday season. It’s there. Somewhere between the end of year bustle, and quotas and shopping and in-laws and all the other million things we tend to get swept away with lies the peace this season brings.
Happy Holidays everyone. May they be Merry and Bright.
