Why 3D Print at Home?

In the transition to working from home, we may notice the need for more home-based tools. Desktop 3D printers not only have many benefits to a factory floor, but they are also great for your home office. The benefits of a home machine are far reaching.

We’re going to focus on three uses:

  1. Commercial
  2. Education
  3. PersonalCommercial

Having creative employees at home with 3D printers can ease design downtime. You don’t have to wait for the prototype to get passed around through the mail. If they have the file, they can print their own. 3D printing gives you the freedom to collaborate with physical prototypes. Create more solid designs when you’re able to make a solid part.

If you need more than a prototype, the Markforged Mark Two prints finished parts, and it’ll fit right on your desk.

Education

Now is a great time to get your children excited about STEM. You can teach them engineering concepts with their own 3D printer. SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids is a free design tool that will put their creativity to work. Once they’re finished with the designs, they can easily send them to 3D print. SOLIDWORKS connects directly to the Sindoh 3DWOX 1.

They’re easy enough for a kid, but robust enough for an engineer’s desk. 3D printing is the future, and it’s important for young people to learn how to design for additive manufacturing.

Personal

You know that one thing that you keep breaking and having to replace at home? Imagine being able to replace that with your own 3D printed part. Printing in PLA is almost always cheaper than buying something new at the store. Our Sr. Application Engineer, Garrett Klein has nearly 3D printed his house back together at this point.

Here are some of his examples:

Rolling desk wheel

Shower handle holder

Tool storage

Baby proofing drawer stop

Aside from the practical, there’s plenty fun prints too. You’re only held back by your imagination.
